These filament LED lamps are energy efficient and are often used bare as a stunning feature.

Edison Style LED Filament Bulbs

Pioneered by the great engineers such as British inventor Joseph Swan in the mid-1800s and later developed commercially by Thomas Edison, the carbon filament lamp was a functional way of lighting the home. Whilst it was innovative at the time, it was inefficient and was prone to frequent failure. It was however functional and attractive to look at.

Once LED bulbs were developed, it became obvious that the design needed refinement and so, filament LED bulb was the next step in the evolution of LED bulbs. The filaments are strings of small LEDs attached to fine wires that are coated in phosphor or silicone resin. Once inside an outer casing with the same size and looks as an incandescent light bulb, it’s difficult to tell the difference.

Advantages

  • They are very energy efficient and consume up to 90% less energy than an incandescent bulb
  • They offer a warm white light, the same as an incandescent light bulb
  • They last a long time, typically 25,000 hours
  • They run much cooler than incandescent bulbs and are safer where children can touch the bulb.
  • They are aesthetically pleasing and ideal for bare bulb fittings or simply hanging on a ceiling pendant cable set.
  • No harsh ultraviolet or infra-red light output
  • They are available in dimming and non-dimming options, giving you greater control over the light levels
  • They are typically much brighter than an equivalent incandescent bulb

Disadvantages

  • They don’t last quite as long as standard LED bulbs
  • The filaments are fragile and can be damaged by rough handling

Now you can create an ambient glow wherever you like.  They can be used as the main light source in any room or as a decorative accent to any relaxing space. These filament lamps are very versatile and can be used with a lamp shade, but are best used bare as a stunning feature.
