Semi Flush Ceiling Lights

Semi-flush ceiling lights play an important role in finding something suitable for rooms with a lower ceiling and could be the perfect solution if you are struggling to find suitable lighting for your ceiling that won’t cause you a headache!

Newer modern homes tend to have ceilings that are around 2.3m high whereas older properties have ceilings of 3m and higher. Choosing your ceiling fitting can be difficult as a pendant or drop fitting may be unsuitable in a newer style property due to the height limitation.

Low ceiling lighting that sits snug to its fixture may be the answer. It will normally have a central drop or stem on which the arms are mounted. They are usually between 150 and 350 mm tall making them the perfect lighting solution for rooms with lower ceilings.

Semi-Flush Mounted Ceiling Light Fittings

A semi flush light fitting can be used anywhere, not just in rooms with limited ceiling height. Mounted on a landing or in a stairwell, a large semi-flush light can look spectacular as the eye is drawn up the stairs to the fitting above.

More traditional semi flush fittings may have glass shades fitted with either upward or downward facing lamp bulbs and are ideal for lower ceilings. It is important to remember that both will give a different effect.

The upward facing bulb will bounce light off the ceiling and back into the room giving a softer more diffused light, whilst the downward facing bulb will give a more direct and consequently brighter light. It is also worth remembering that you can see the lamp bulb in a downward facing fitting, so it may be worth fitting opal or soft tone lamps.

We now have a greater variety of semi flush mounted lights to suit every type of decor, from contemporary to traditional, very ornate through to plain and simple. Whatever style you decide on, please ensure that your choice will give adequate light for its use and that it is proportionate to the surroundings.
