Questions and Answers

Question from John Armfield

Q:

Good morning,I have 12-4.6 watt dimmable Collingwood DT4 led spotlights in my lounge operated with 2 switches one each side of the room, can you please advise which 2 switches I require to replace these please.

A:

If you want to replace two normal light switches with two dimmer switches, you can’t use standard dimmers, you will need a master/slave dimmer switch set up.

If you want to only replace one dimmer and keep one as an on/off switch, then that’s fine, and you can use this dimmer switch: https://www.universal-lighting.co.uk/products/varilight-v-pro-high-power-10-300w-led-1-gang-dimmer-switch-white/

This one is designed to dim more than 10 LEDs on a single circuit, so will work with 12 LEDs perfectly well.

Question from Bob

Q:

Can you tell me if any of your dimmers would dim 5x10Watt LED dimmable bulbs?

A:

This dimmer switch will dim these bulbs but please make sure that they are stated as “dimmable” as there are plenty of non-dimmable bulbs on the market.

Question from Philip

Q:

This dimmer says maximum of 10 lamps. We have a chandelier with 28 X G9 fittings and were using 2W dimmable LEDs. What dimmer switch should we get for this application?

A:

I would advise the use of the following linked LED dimmer:

https://www.universal-lighting.co.uk/products/varilight-v-pro-high-power-10-300w-led-1-gang-dimmer-switch-white/

This dimmer has a maximum threshold of 30 total lamps and can deal with mixed loads (LED and Halogen/incandescent) up to 300w.

Question from Alan Dagg

Q:

I need to power 3 x G4 Bi-pin halogen task lights and also 2 x 3.5W LED G9 Pendant lights on the same gang..will this do it?

A:

This dimmer switch can handle mixed loads as long as you stay within the parameters of the recommended loading. Please see the instructions link within the description of the dimmer for clarification. All bulbs and drivers or transformers must be rated as “dimmable”.

Question from Walton

Q:

I have a ceiling light with x 3 40w candle bulbs in dimmer what dimmer switch do you recommend ?

A:

This dimmer switch will work perfectly well with your LED bulbs up to a maximum of 10 lamps.

Question from peter

Q:

I’m hoping to use this dimmer with 4x R80 LED dimmable bulbs ( You don’t seem to sell these)
I imagine each bulb will be around 7w. Can you see a problem using this dimmer?

A:

This dimmer switch is rated to dim up to 10 LED dimmable bulbs on a single circuit so will be ideal for your scenario.

Question from Josephine Scott

Q:

we have 2 chandelier light fittings with 9 x 6 watt LED bulbs in each one. Which dimmer switch should we use.

A:

We recommend this dimmer switch from our range which will dim up to 30 LED lamps on one dimmer switch V-Com high power dimmer switch

Question from Lance

Q:

Hi Can I use the Varilight V-Pro 120W LED 1 Gang Rotary Dimmer Switch as a two way switch?

A:

Yes, this dimmer can be wired into a 2 way circuit using one dimmer and a switch. There is a link to the wiring diagram within the description of this produt above.

Question from Sherrie Villis

Q:

Can you supply this dimmer switch in chrome finish?

A:

Please contact our customer care team where we will be able to advise the current price and delivery time for metal finshes on this dimmer, including chrome options.

Question from Stephen

Q:

I have a light fitting containing 5x5w loading could you tell me what dimmer switch is required to stopping flickering at minimum power please

A:

This dimmer switch will work well with 5 x 5w LED bulbs, they have to be dimmable bulbs however. If you are using an older style dimmer switch, these aren’t usually rated for LED use and may cause the flickering due to the very low load of 25w.

Question from Rik

Q:

I just installed a 37W integrated LED ceiling light. When my dimmer is set to Low the lamp doesn’t turn on… when the dimmer is set to 50% the light flashes, and when I put the dimmer up to around 80% the light stabilises, will this dimmer work with my light?

A:

Older dimmers which aren’t LED compatible usually have a minimum load of 40w or 60w, which would be too high for a 37w LED light.
Assuming that the 37W light you have is dimmable to start with, (please check manufacturer’s instructions) then this V-Pro dimmer switch you have chosen will work well as the minimum load is 0w.

Question from Seb

Q:

Hi I need a single gang, 2 way dimmer switch for 3 x 3.8W G9 LEDs. Will this be compatible? Thanks

A:

This dimmer switch is rated to be able to dim up to 10 LED dimmable bulbs with a maximum wattage of 300w.

Question from Alex

Q:

Is this dimmer switch going to buzz?

A:

Most dimmers emit a buzz. These are very high quality British made products, and are designed to be silent as possible.

Question from michael vucevic

Q:

Hi I need a 2 gang dimmer to cover 6 x 10w Leds and 3 x 60w halogen capsules. Can you recommend a suitable dimmer. Many thanks

A:

This 2gang dimmer in our VPRO range JQP252 can be programmed as a trailing edge, or leading edge dimmer idependently, so it suitable for both LED and 230v Halogen loads.

Question from Phil

Q:

I have a light fitting with 10 x 20watt halogen bulbs, please can you advise the best dimmer switch

A:

You will need to check that the dimmer switch range is rated to dim the total watts you have. This dimmer switch will operate 200w of halogen lighting. It will also operate up to 10 dimmable LED bulbs. Please refer to the instructions as this switch has varying modes for different types of light bulbs which will need to be set on installation.

Question from Sue

Q:

What is the minimum wattage this switch will perform with? Many thanks

A:

V-Pro dimmers are designed to control LED lighting loads requiring trailing-edge or leading-edge control with options from 0W-120W (max. 10 LEDs), so there is no minimum wattage, as long as you are dimming at least 1 LED and up to 10, this will work perfectly well.

Question from jackie Clowes

Q:

Please can you advise if the dimmer is available in black nickel? Thanks J

A:

We can supply this dimmer switch in a variety of metal finishes, including Iridium Black. Please contact a member of our sales team who will be able to provide images, current pricing and availabilty.

Question from john dower

Q:

Can you tell me the ‘internal’ depth of the unit – that is to say how deep it goes into the back box? I’m assuming the 11mm describes only the front plate part. thanks J

A:

The 11mm does refer to the front plate, the actual depth of the dimmer behind the front plate is 15mm. It is recommended that a backbox with a minimum of 25mm is used which gives you room for the wiring on installation.
